Tools and Articles galore for creating mobile apps

Jason Zhu of the Intel Software Network Blogs has listed a galore of tools and articles related to developing on mobile devices they have put out in the last month.  If you are a developer for UMPC’s or other mobile devices, it’s definitely worth looking at.  There’s a lot to take in so I recommend taking a look at the post.

Here’s a rundown of what’s mentioned:

UMPC evaluator tool 1.0 – Helps you determine how portable your application is.

Platform Discovery Code – Gathers information on the system your application is running on to help writing mobile applications.

“Creating Energy Efficient Applications”

This paper examines software methodologies, designs, and software development tools that can be used to improve the energy efficiency of application software and extend mobile platform battery time.

Mobile Platform SDK 1.2

The Intel® Mobile Platform SDK 1.2 an open source product that makes it easier and faster to develop and deploy compelling mobile applications that are tuned for the mobile world. Your customers can now get better performance from their notebook, tablets, Smart Phones, and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

“World Championships” – Jonas Kollberg talks about viewing TV on mobile devices

“Game Demo Contest Winners-Wow!”

Wow. This year’s entries to the Intel Game Demo Contest are amazing. Of course, games in general are amazing: addictive, cool, interesting, beautiful, and most importantly fun.

I’ve visited their Second Life island and it has a ton of resources to check out as well.  I recommend joining their group since they occasionally put on live events and demonstrations focused toward developers and geeks.  If you have Second Life installed already, you can go here to teleport directly to their island.

I’m Ironchef Cook in Second Life.  I’m not on there much at all these days, but if you join up, shoot me a message.

Hey thanks guys. I'm not actually developing apps for UMPC's at the moment but it's nice to know there's tools and resources out there to help people. Thought I'd spread the word and let people know what you're doing. I'm subscribed to your blog and SL group and it's exciting to read the great things you're doing. Keep up the good work.
  • Rodfather, thanks for the post.
It's really nice to know you and meet with persons here who are potentially interested in developing mobile software.
I look forward to hearing more mobile tech stuffs from you and community :-)
  • Thanks for the post, Rodfather. :-) I sit right across the aisle from Jason, and he and the mobile group have a ton of software resources that we sometimes feel go undiscovered. We think it's pretty good stuff, so thanks for bringing it some attention! :-)

If you or any other mobile developer have any questions about these, or want to talk to someone about mobile software development at Intel, let me know. We have a ton of smart people that want to talk with every developer out there! :-)
