U810 running XP Tablet Ed now
Just a quick update.
I used the restore CD to install XP Tablet Ed. I noticed in the setup, it has a partition manager. Thing is, it’s set up to use two partitions by default. This explains the rogue 1GB partition. It’s not used for anything and can be deleted or merged with your primary partition.
I ended up setting aside 6GB’s and installed Ubuntu again.
The XP restore is a full restore. You don’t need to install any drivers or applications.
Few differences I noticed.
The Realtek HD audio app has more features than the one on Vista.
Using UStream and justin.tv to broadcast video is much more efficient on XP. When streaming video to ustream while on Vista, the CPU% was hovering close to 100%. With XP, it was around 40%. I’m assuming the differences are due to drivers.

Installed Ubuntu “Again”? Did you do any sort of writeup on Ubuntu on it? I’m extremely curious how well linux works on these. I’m moving my desktop to Ubuntu and I’d love to be able to cut down on the number of platforms I’m running.
FYI - I have a Japanese U8240 with XP-Tablet installed currently…
Thanks!
Well, the restore cd basically wiped out the entire drive so I had to reinstall it.
I haven’t done anything special in terms of installing ubuntu. I installed it booting from the live cd..
It picks up the atheros wifi using restricted drivers.
Bluetooth is working if I pair with my bluetooth mouse using the Bluetooth preferences.
Webcam, audio, native resolution is picked up right away.
The touchscreen, hardware buttons, and finger print reader aren’t working. I haven’t explored getting them going and, at the moment, I really don’t want to put the time into that.
I may try to see if I could get Ubuntu Mobile to work though.
Rodfather. SO what about the resolution under Ubuntu. I have the Kohjinsha SH8 and it has the same screen resolution as the U810 and yet with all the distro’s of linux haven’t been able to get the screen resolution to 1024×600. Do you know how I can get Linux to use this resolution? Even with an 800×600 I still can’t get the windows(?) to stay within the screen. They’re always stretching below the taskbar making it extremely hard to use linux. Any ideas?
Under Ubuntu, it picked up the native 1024×600 resolution on the U810. No clue why it doesn’t pick up the native res on the SH8.
You might want to look into 915resolution.
