What sucks about the MacBook Air

  • It’s heavy.  3 lbs
  • No user replaceable battery
  • It’s huge!
    macbookairsonytzasuseeepc.PNG
  • No internal WWAN solution (HSPDA, EVDO)
  • No ExpressCard slot
  • No SD slot
  • Expensive. $1799++
  • Doesn’t include Apple Remote
  • Thin doesn’t always mean better.. will it wobble?
  • No touchscreen

I still want one.  I just won’t buy one myself.

Appleinsider is saying replacing the battery takes minutes to do.

"Once flipped upside down, the MacBook Air's bottom cover is easily unscrewed and removed, providing immediate access to the battery cavity. From there, the battery can be unscrewed from the chassis with the same screwdriver and unplugged from the circuit board with a simple tug -- it's not soldered to the board."
  • The lack of 3G wireless network support was the deal breaker for me. Personally, I would rather have constant connectivity vs. a paper thin machine.

It’s too expensive. Add the 64GB SSD drive and it’s extremely prohibitive.

No optical drive. This means you have to beg others to let you install a software Apple gave you on their PC so you have access to their drive.

No ethernet port. That makes the Remote Disk software useless if the PC you’re trying to connect to doesn’t have wireless.

Only 1 USB port. So you’ll need a USB hub, one more thing to carry around… that’s not portability

Battery not user Replaceable Unlike 99% of other laptops out there, the battery is not user replaceable.

Mono Speakers The built in speakers on the Macbook Air are weak and sound airy (sorry) from the hands-on videos so far. Worst of all, they’re mono, not stereo! Are we back in the 90s?

Fixed RAM The Macbook Air ships with 2GB of RAM by default. This RAM is onboard though, meaning there is no option to upgrade or to add more RAM.

Slow Processor 1.6 C2D by default is amongst the slowest Core 2 Duo processors you can get.

Slow 1.8? Hard drive The base model comes with a 1.8? hard drive. As most computer enthusiasts know, 1.8? hard drives top out at 4,200rpm

I had mine for a total of 3 days. Seems Apple is now the new Microsoft, "throw it to the public, let them test it for us". It was quite clear that this junk was rushed thru production and shipped as is..... good luck to you if you buy this crap....... I think the thing that made me the maddest was that on a flat table, it wobbled. The air is thin and mine had a slight twist in it that didn't let it sit flat. After that I found that it was just one problem after another. By the end of the 1st day with it, I knew I had made a big mistake. I contacted apple, and arranged to return this junk.
