My theory is that they're trying to stimulate the development community. They rely totally on it and if those developers stroll of to iPhone or MID land, they will end up having to pay a lot more for development.

Having used the M528 and seen some of the dev work going on in and around the Atom ecosystem, Nokia should indeed think carefully about what OS they persue for the N810.
