As with others, I’ve noticed the bars on my Palm Pre jump around quite a bit, and at times, switch to roaming.  It may be a bug and will definitely contribute to the not so great battery life.

I found this thread on the Palm forums and noticed you can disable roaming and stay on the Sprint network.

How do you that?

 

Open up the dial pad, tap the Sprint logo at the upper left hand of the screen, and select Preferences.

 

Under Network, you can then switch the Voice Network from ‘Automatic’ to ‘Sprint Only’

 

Interesting enough, at the bottom of the screen, there are buttons for ‘Update Network Settings’ and ‘Update PRL’.  I guess it won’t hurt to updates these.

I downloaded and signed up for Shortcovers, a eBook store and reader for the Palm Pre. What’s interesting is it appears to be all cloud based. I bookmarked the free book ‘Blood Hunt’ and when selecting a chapter, it takes some seconds to load up.
