Chippy’s UMPC miniblog.: Portable 15-hour car/desktop PC

CarPC’s have been a hot topic here lately.  Steve ‘Chippy’ Paine just put up a short video on his UMPC moblog site showing how you can have a 15 hr CarPC/desktop PC using the Everun, Car dock, Samsung Q1 USB keyboard, and a Tekkeon MP3400 external battery.  Well, I have 2/4 items..  Looks to be a nice solution if you want to mount the Everun on to the windshield or a flat surfaced dash.

Here’s my mounting solution for the Fujitsu U810 using a ProClip vehicle mount and a RAM Mount cradle.

RathofMac WebcamMax How To Video

Found a cool video posted on Chris Pirillo’s site.  It’s a tutorial on how to make your live streaming screen look just like Chris’ on Ustream on a PC using WebCamMax.

This is a great tutorial for up and coming lifecasters who want to include ’stuff’ on the screen.

Just got a RAM Mount Fujitsu U810 Car Cradle

I mentioned it in a blog post.
http://rodfathermobile.com/…ar-cradle/

Here’s a quick video of the install. While I was setting up for this video, FedEx came again and dropped off the GorillaPod for SLR sized cameras. I stuck the Aiptek A-HD to it right away and used it in part of the video.
That’s why there’s so much noise. The GorillaPod is stiff, which is good, but it cause a lot of noise while bending the joints.

Polymer Vision Readius Video

Jonathan Greene of atmaspheric endeavors has been cruising through the Mobile World Congress the past few days.
I’ve been following his tweets and notice he’s been broadcasting live footage from his Nokia N95 through qik.com.
One video that caught my attention is the Polymer Vision Readius.  It’s a compact ereader with folding e-ink screen.  Very cool.  When the device is rolled up, it’s about the size of a cell phone.

Bought a Xbox Live Vision Cam

I plan on mounting this in my car use to use when broadcasting on the road like Jeff Hibbard. Also will come in handy for games that support this cam when plugging it into the Xbox 360.
The drivers loaded up right away when installing through Windows Update on the PC.
It’s pretty much a standard 1.3 Megapixel webcam. Much better than the webcam included on the Fujitsu U810.
640×480 video is clean and smooth. $36.66 at Circuit City.

Trying out live.yahoo.com

It seems a bit more stable than yesterday. At least I can broastcast now. We’ll see how this goes. Looks to be very easy and straightforward to set up.
The CPU% load is around 50% when broadcasting on the U810. I would guess similar to ustream.tv.
There’s really not much info on this service. Are they automatically recording everything I broadcast?

Live Ink Blog Tutorial

Stil at the bowling alley bar.
Thought I’d try something new.
Here I will be using the Fujitsu U810 connected via WiFi to demonstrate a live ink blog post.
I will be using ManyCams which is basically a free version of WebCamMax for the PC or CamTwist for the Mac. It has basic features such as titling and effects but also has the ability to use photos or a desktop as a webcam source which I will be using.
